Abstract

This academic paper reviews and expands on arguments made in Chinese Medicine Men, a book by Sherman Cochran that explores the influence of Western-led globalization on consumer culture in China from the late 19th century to the early-to-mid 20th century.

  • Kelsey Burhans, Wellesley College

    Kelsey Brooke Burhans is a sophomore at Wellesley College and plans to double-major in International Relations/Economics and Chinese Language and Culture. Upon graduation, her hope is to be based in China and to pursue a career in either the automotive or financial industries. Besides speaking Mandarin, Kelsey is fluent in Russian and French. In her spare time, she enjoys listening to classic rock, playing polo and squash.
